October 31st - November 4th
Whew! What a busy week we had last week! Friday was our Costume Parade and our Halloween party. Thank you to everyone who sent things in for our party! The kids had a great time and the costumes were wonderful! Pictures will be posted soon!
This week is going to be a lot less busy! We will finish up our Halloween unit on Monday and will move into Thanksgiving.
Please remember to send in a seasonally appropriate change of clothes for your child. The weather is started to turn colder and if there is a reason to change clothes, we want to make sure each child has warm clothes!
Please also remember to put your child's name in their jacket. This helps a lot when there is a jacket on the floor and we need to find the owner.
Monthly Book Records are due on Monday! Send these in for your child to get a special treat.
I hope everyone has a great week!

We had a great week last week! We got to go to the GOTCHA party, we explored the inside of a pumpkin, we had a pumpkin taste test, and we got to eat pancakes for the letter Pp! Be sure to check out the pictures on our blog to see what all we did.
This is going to be a busy week for us! Please refer to the calendar or that paper that was sent home to know what your child is supposed to wear each day this week!
We will also have our costume parade on Friday @ 8:15. Please make sure your child is at school on time so they do not miss the parade. Please also do not dress your child in costumes that can be seen as violent or scary. The purpose of the day is for students to understand and enjoy make believe. We will start the parade in Kindergarten. Parents you are welcome to come walk with us or watch!
We will have our class Halloween party that afternoon at 12:30. If you signed up to help with the Halloween party during Parent Report Night, you have already been contacted. Please send your items in by Friday morning.
If you have not sent in your child's report card, please sign it and send it in as soon as possible! The kids did great and I am so proud of them!
Fundraiser money and orders are due on Wednesday. We will get 10% of any sales from our classroom. I'm pretty sure this is our last fundraiser for a while! :-) Thank you for all of your support!
I hope you all have a great week! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me!

Pancakes!
This was a week full of "Pp" things! We explored pumpkins all week long and on Friday we got to eat pancakes! Mr. Hodum was very nice to make us pancakes (since Mrs. Boyer burns them) and we really enjoyed them! He even made them orange so we could have "Pumpkin" pancakes. We also had a pumpkin taste test on Thursday. We tried pumpkin seeds (from our pumpkin that we cut open), pumpkin bars, pumpkin pudding, and pumpkin pie. Turns out, the pumpkin bars were our favorite! Ask your child what their favorite pumpkin food was!

Hey Parents!
I hope you are all having a great weekend and are enjoying the pictures on our blog! The kids had a busy week and had fun!
This is going to be another busy week for us. The book fair starts on Monday and runs through Friday. It will be in the lunchroom and your child will get to visit the book fair during our lunch time. You can send money in their folders in an envelope for the book fair and they will get to go during lunch. Or you are welcome to come eat lunch with your child and then visit the book fair with them.
On Tuesday we will be having our GOTCHA party!
On Thursday, the first nine weeks report card comes home. Please review the report card and the criteria for promotion sheet that night, and send those back, signed, on Friday.
On Friday, the Stanhope Cheerleaders will be selling booster badges for their football game that night against Wetumpka.
Also on Friday, Scholastic Orders are due. We got 3 new books for our classroom last month thanks to orders from parents! Thank you!
This coming up week and into next week we will be studying pumpkins and Halloween. If you can, please send in a bag of candy corn. We will use the candy corn for multiple activities!
Also parents, please remember when sending snack money for your child to send in exact change. We can not get change from the snack shack, so if you send a $5, we can't send money back to you. The office also can not take a torn dollar bill. Please send exactly $.50 or $1.00. Thanks for your cooperation!

Apple Taste Test
For the past two weeks, we have been studying apples! We learned a lot about them and can name all of the parts of an apple. We also learned that there are a lot of foods made using apples. Last Friday, we got to have an apple taste test! We tasted apple slices, apple jelly, apple pie, apple juice, and we even made our own applesauce! After we tasted each one, we graphed whether we liked it or not on our own paper. Once we finished eating, we made a class graph to see which food was liked the most. Turns out, we all liked apple pie, apple juice, and applesauce the best! Enjoy the pictures!

Read for the Record and Snakes!
On October 6, 2011 we had a busy day! Mrs. Stephens, Olivia's mom, came to visit and read Llama Llama Red Pajama to us, while we wore our pajamas! That afternoon we read the book The Sultan's Snakes. We had to talk about and describe the patterns we saw on the snakes. After we read the book, all of the kids got pattern block shapes and got to make their own pattern block snakes! Enjoy the pictures!

Hey Parents!
I hope everyone is having restful Fall Break!
Last week we participated in Read for the Record. We had special guest readers and we got to wear our pajamas! Pictures will be posted soon.
I hope you are having fun with the Pumpkin Projects! Please send those back on Wednesday so we can display them for Halloween!
This Wednesday we will be having our Pumpkin Patch at CES! We will start at 11:30. Parents are welcome to come and walk with us! Please be at our classroom a little bit before 11:30 so you can walk with us to our first event!
There will be no test coming home this week. We are keeping these tests to send home with the Report Card on October 20th. Please review the Criteria for Promotion sheet you got during Parent Report Night. This will show you what is coming up on the report card and what you can be reviewing and working on with your child.
Magazine sales booklets were sent home last week. All you have to do is fill them out and return them to school. Money raised from these magazines helps fund the GOTCHA parties and other things that the school provides.
Next week we will be having a book fair in the lunchroom. Children will get to visit the book fair during lunch time. If you would like to come and go with your child you are welcome to during your child's lunch.
Stanhope Elmore cheerleaders will be selling Booster Badges Friday morning in the car rider line!
The weather is also starting to turn colder, so please send in an seasonally appropriate change of clothes for your child. And PLEASE make sure your child's name is in their jacket. There are a lot of jackets coming in and out of our classrooms and names would make it a lot easier to find who lost jackets belong to.
Thank you for all of your help!

Hey Parents!
I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
THANK YOU for all of your hard work in the cookie dough sale! You sold a little over $1000 total! That means our class will get $100 in our account to use for materials. Thank you so much for your support!
This Wednesday will be our GOTCHA party! The kids have been working hard to get those GOTCHAs. Sometimes our class is given a GOTCHA as a whole. When that happens, I hang up one GOTCHA and mark one down for everybody. For you that means you may not see every GOTCHA your child is getting. It may seem like at home they only have one or two, but they might actually have four! As of right now, we've gotten two GOTCHAs for our whole class, so you can add that to however many your child has gotten! :-)

I hope everyone is having a restful Labor Day weekend!
This will be a short week for the kids. Tomorrow is Parent Report Day and that is a No School day for the kids. It's just me and you! :-) I will see you tomorrow!
The rest of this week we will be finishing up reviewing our letters, we will continue with the sight words the and little, and we will continue exploring manipulatives during math time.
I hope you have been seeing all of the GOTCHAs your child has been getting. They have been working very hard to earn them. They need 3 GOTCHAs for the party next week!
Last week you received an order form for Scholastic Book Club. This is a GREAT way our classroom gets free stuff! When you buy a book, our classroom gets points. Scholastic sends me a catalog full of things I can get with the points we have. Last year, I was able to get our entire listening center (headphones and CD player) with the points we had earned from books. You will get one of these order forms every month!

I hope you all have a great week. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions!

*We won't have a Bee of the Week this week. We only do those on full weeks of school.

Our First Week - in Pictures!
Here are some pictures from our first couple weeks of school! We made some gingerbread men, we ate some gingerbread me, we explored different colors, we explored different math manipulatives, and we had a lot of fun! We also celebrated a birthday with our human birthday cake, we had a musical color paper sort, and we had our GOTCHA kickoff. Enjoy!
August 29 - September 2
We have had a very busy and fun week at school! We have learned a lot, and met a lot of new friends! Ask your child about Rudy Red, Yelling Yellow, Gross - Out Gray, and Alright Orange! Some of them had some behaviors that we just don't want to have in Kindergarten! One of them behaved exactly like they were supposed to! We all decided we wanted to be like Alright Orange.
Thank you to everyone who has sent in your child's forms, fees, and supplies. If you have not done so, please do as soon as possible!
In your child's folder on Friday you received two very important things! The first is the All About Me Bag. We will begin our Family and All About Me unit this week, and these bags play a huge part in our study! Please fill these this weekend and send them back on Monday! Second, you received a letter about Parent Report Day. This will be a day for you to come in and have a short conference with me about your child. Please select 3 times on your sheet, ranked 1-3. I will do my best to honor your request as close as I can. These are first come, first serve, so you want to get this letter back quickly! Thank you for your involvement in your child's education!
Please consider joining Coosada's PTA! It is a great way for you to be involved in our school and in your child's education. There are numerous opportunities for you to volunteer and the class with the most memberships wins a pizza party :-)
Please remember to send in EXACT change for snack. We can only take cash for snack and we can not give change. We are still waiting to hear from Child Nutrition about some free/reduced lunch forms. All we can do is be patient! If you would like to call them their phone number is 334-567-1222.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me! Have a great week!

August 22 - August 26
Parents,
I'm sure your children have been resting well as we've all had busy days for our first full week together in Kindergarten! The children have been learning school and class routines, how to work and rotate in literacy and math centers, how to listen to each other and take turns, and together, we have had a great week.
Bus drivers ask that our bus students continue to wear their tags daily. Car riders should also continue to wear their tags daily. Some of you are ready to try the bus in the afternoons. This is fine with us; please send a note in writing and include the address your child will be riding to.
Thanks for your timely response with all the paperwork and required fees.
Look for Family Times coming home on Monday. This will give you some ideas of simple, quick homework time with your child each night. It corresponds to what we will be doing in our reading series.
Please continue to check your child's daily folder and their behavior calendar. Also, please initial on their behavior calendar each day. That way, we know you have seen it!
Here are just a few reminders of things we have noticed this week :

- When sending your child's snack money, money for the required fees, or lunch money, please make sure you send exact change. We do not keep money in our classroom and the office does not have change.
- Please make sure your child comes in with their tennis shoes on ready for PE.
- Please discuss with your child their morning duties: where to put their lunch/snack, where to put their folder, and what they do once they get to their seat.
- Practice your child's lunch number with them! They will use this everyday and need to be able to say it to the ladies at lunch.

Welcome to Kindergarten!
Welcome to Kindergarten! I am very excited to meet and get to know each of you this year! Our orientation is Tuesday, August 9th at 6:00 in our classroom. Please make every effort to attend as we will be discussing a lot of very important information to make your child’s year a successful learning experience! If you would like to bring your child’s supplies to the orientation you are more than welcome to!
I will be sending you a packet in the mail. You will find a letter introducing myself and explaining staggered start, a supply list, a wish list, and a postcard enclosed in this packet. Once I receive your postcard, I will send you a letter with the date that your child will be starting school. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at kate.boyer@elmore.k12.al.us. I am looking forward to meeting you and your child! We are going to have a great year!

Crate Seats!
I saw these on someone's blog a while back and then later saw a different set on Pinterest! I had to make them! They definitely look like beginner's work, but they will do. :-)
I got 3 crates from Wal-Mart for $3.50. I went to Home Depot for the plywood. I just bought a sheet and they cut it for me! Be sure to take the crate in with you so they can measure it too!
I got the Spray Adhesive (a small one) from Wal-Mart for around $4.00. I got the foam squares from Hobby Lobby and I thought they would be perfect!! As you will see in the next picture, they didn't fit exactly like I planned.
See? I bought one more square and I was able to add more foam to the ends to sort of even it out.
The finished product! :-) I will be using them at my computer table (I have 3 computers) so hopefully they will work out!
