October 31st - November 4th

Whew!  What a busy week we had last week!  Friday was our Costume Parade and our Halloween party.  Thank you to everyone who sent things in for our party!  The kids had a great time and the costumes were wonderful!  Pictures will be posted soon!
This week is going to be a lot less busy! We will finish up our Halloween unit on Monday and will move into Thanksgiving.
Please remember to send in a seasonally appropriate change of clothes for your child.  The weather is started to turn colder and if there is a reason to change clothes, we want to make sure each child has warm clothes!
Please also remember to put your child's name in their jacket.  This helps a lot when there is a jacket on the floor and we need to find the owner.
Monthly Book Records are due on Monday!  Send these in for your child to get a special treat.

I hope everyone has a great week!

October 24 - October 28

We had a great week last week! We got to go to the GOTCHA party, we explored the inside of a pumpkin, we had a pumpkin taste test, and we got to eat pancakes for the letter Pp! Be sure to check out the pictures on our blog to see what all we did.
This is going to be a busy week for us! Please refer to the calendar or that paper that was sent home to know what your child is supposed to wear each day this week!
We will also have our costume parade on Friday @ 8:15. Please make sure your child is at school on time so they do not miss the parade. Please also do not dress your child in costumes that can be seen as violent or scary. The purpose of the day is for students to understand and enjoy make believe. We will start the parade in Kindergarten. Parents you are welcome to come walk with us or watch!
We will have our class Halloween party that afternoon at 12:30. If you signed up to help with the Halloween party during Parent Report Night, you have already been contacted. Please send your items in by Friday morning.
If you have not sent in your child's report card, please sign it and send it in as soon as possible! The kids did great and I am so proud of them!
Fundraiser money and orders are due on Wednesday. We will get 10% of any sales from our classroom. I'm pretty sure this is our last fundraiser for a while! :-) Thank you for all of your support!
I hope you all have a great week! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me!

Pancakes!

This was a week full of "Pp" things! We explored pumpkins all week long and on Friday we got to eat pancakes! Mr. Hodum was very nice to make us pancakes (since Mrs. Boyer burns them) and we really enjoyed them! He even made them orange so we could have "Pumpkin" pancakes. We also had a pumpkin taste test on Thursday. We tried pumpkin seeds (from our pumpkin that we cut open), pumpkin bars, pumpkin pudding, and pumpkin pie. Turns out, the pumpkin bars were our favorite! Ask your child what their favorite pumpkin food was!

What's Inside a Pumpkin?

Today we got to explore the inside of a pumpkin! We cut it open, got a handful of pulp and seeds, and then used 4 of our 5 senses to describe it! It was a lot of fun! Enjoy the pictures!

October 17th - 21st

Hey Parents!
I hope you are all having a great weekend and are enjoying the pictures on our blog! The kids had a busy week and had fun!
This is going to be another busy week for us.  The book fair starts on Monday and runs through Friday.  It will be in the lunchroom and your child will get to visit the book fair during our lunch time.  You can send money in their folders in an envelope for the book fair and they will get to go during lunch.  Or you are welcome to come eat lunch with your child and then visit the book fair with them.
On Tuesday we will be having our GOTCHA party!
On Thursday, the first nine weeks report card comes home.  Please review the report card and the criteria for promotion sheet that night, and send those back, signed, on Friday.
On Friday, the Stanhope Cheerleaders will be selling booster badges for their football game that night against Wetumpka.
Also on Friday, Scholastic Orders are due.  We got 3 new books for our classroom last month thanks to orders from parents!  Thank you!
This coming up week and into next week we will be studying pumpkins and Halloween.  If you can, please send in a bag of candy corn.  We will use the candy corn for multiple activities!
Also parents, please remember when sending snack money for your child to send in exact change.  We can not get change from the snack shack, so if you send a $5, we can't send money back to you.  The office also can not take a torn dollar bill.  Please send exactly $.50 or $1.00.  Thanks for your cooperation!

Have a great week!

Apple Taste Test

For the past two weeks, we have been studying apples! We learned a lot about them and can name all of the parts of an apple. We also learned that there are a lot of foods made using apples. Last Friday, we got to have an apple taste test! We tasted apple slices, apple jelly, apple pie, apple juice, and we even made our own applesauce! After we tasted each one, we graphed whether we liked it or not on our own paper. Once we finished eating, we made a class graph to see which food was liked the most. Turns out, we all liked apple pie, apple juice, and applesauce the best! Enjoy the pictures!

We started out by getting our faces painted.  Then we got to dance with Ms. Duncan and Mr. Jackson.  After that, we got to have story time with Mrs. Wishy Washy.  Finally, we made it to the hayride!  After the hayride, we got to pick out our pumpkins!  Thank you to all the parents who came to walk with us!  Enjoy the pictures!

Read for the Record and Snakes!

On October 6, 2011 we had a busy day!  Mrs. Stephens, Olivia's mom, came to visit and read Llama Llama Red Pajama to us, while we wore our pajamas! That afternoon we read the book The Sultan's Snakes. We had to talk about and describe the patterns we saw on the snakes.  After we read the book, all of the kids got pattern block shapes and got to make their own pattern block snakes!  Enjoy the pictures!

October 12th - October 14th

Hey Parents!
I hope everyone is having restful Fall Break!
Last week we participated in Read for the Record. We had special guest readers and we got to wear our pajamas! Pictures will be posted soon.
I hope you are having fun with the Pumpkin Projects! Please send those back on Wednesday so we can display them for Halloween!
This Wednesday we will be having our Pumpkin Patch at CES! We will start at 11:30. Parents are welcome to come and walk with us! Please be at our classroom a little bit before 11:30 so you can walk with us to our first event!
There will be no test coming home this week. We are keeping these tests to send home with the Report Card on October 20th. Please review the Criteria for Promotion sheet you got during Parent Report Night. This will show you what is coming up on the report card and what you can be reviewing and working on with your child.

Magazine sales booklets were sent home last week. All you have to do is fill them out and return them to school. Money raised from these magazines helps fund the GOTCHA parties and other things that the school provides.

Next week we will be having a book fair in the lunchroom. Children will get to visit the book fair during lunch time. If you would like to come and go with your child you are welcome to during your child's lunch.

Stanhope Elmore cheerleaders will be selling Booster Badges Friday morning in the car rider line!

The weather is also starting to turn colder, so please send in an seasonally appropriate change of clothes for your child. And PLEASE make sure your child's name is in their jacket. There are a lot of jackets coming in and out of our classrooms and names would make it a lot easier to find who lost jackets belong to.
Thank you for all of your help!
Have a great week!
